Geboren
1962 in Murnau, studierte in Freiburg bei Klaus Huber, Emanuel Nunes und
Mathias Spahlinger Komposition, Musiktheorie bei Peter Förtig
und besuchte Dirigierkurse bei Peter Eötvös.
Johannes Schöllhorns Musik umfasst viele Genres
von Kammer- und Vokalmusik über Werke für Orchester bis hin zum Musiktheater.
Er beschäftigt sich ebenfalls auf vielfältige Weise mit Transkompositionen von
der Musik der Renaissance bis heute. Er arbeitet mit zahlreichen
internationalen Solisten, Ensembles und Orchestern, unter anderen dem Ensemble
Modern, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Ensemble Intercontemporain,
Ensemble l’instant donné,
Remix Ensemble, Klangforum Wien, ensemble recherche, den Neuen Vocalsolisten, ensemble
ascolta und dem Neuen Ensemble zusammen und seine
Musik wurde von den Symphonieorchestern des WDR und SWR Stuttgart, dem DSO
Berlin, dem Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, dem Philharmonia
Orchestra London und dem BBC Scottish Symphony
Orchestra und anderen aufgeführt. Er erhielt einige internationale
Kompositionspreise und Auszeichnungen, im Jahre 1997 war er Gewinner des Comitée de Lecture des Ensemble Intercontemporain und erhielt 2009 den Praetorius
Musikpreis des Landes Niedersachsen. Seine Kammeroper "les
petites filles modèles" wurde oftmals in Paris und an verschiedenen
Orten Frankreichs gespielt und hatte 1997 an der Opera de Bastille Premiere.
2008 war er im Rahmen des „into“-Projekts zu einem
Studienaufenthalt in Hong Kong.
Johannes Schöllhorn war bis 2004 Leiter des
Ensembles für Neue Musik an der Musikhochschule Freiburg und unterrichtete von
1995-2000 an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Zürich-Winterthur. Von 2001
bis 2009 war er Professor für Komposition an der Hochschule für Musik und
Theater Hannover und Leiter des von ihm mitbegründeten Instituts für neue Musik
„incontri“. Von 2009 bis 2017 war er Professor für
Komposition und Leiter des Instituts für Neue Musik an der Hochschule für Musik
und Tanz in Köln. Seit Oktober 2017 ist er als Professor für Komposition und
als Leiter des Instituts für neue Musik an der Musikhochschule Freiburg tätig.
Johannes Schöllhorn unterrichtete mehrmals am
Kompositionsseminar der Fondation Royaumont (F) sowie
dem Bartók-Festival (HU) und gab unter anderem Kompositionskurse auf Schloss
Solitude (D), beim Ictus-Seminar (B), am Conservatoire de Paris (F), am TrinityLaban College in London (GB), am Central Conservatory in Beijing und am Conservatory
of Music in Shanghai (China), in Hongkong, beim Takefu-Festival (Japan), an der Tokyo Ondai
University (Japan), beim Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (Korea), am Centro San Fedele
Milano (Italien), in Lugano (Schweiz), Kiew (Ukraine), Jakarta (Indonesien),
Manila (Philippinen), Santiago (Chile), Teheran (Iran), Moskau (Russland), San
Sebastian und Saragossa (Spanien).

Johannes Schöllhorns music has a wide range of genres from chamber
music, vocal music and orchestra music to music for theatre. Besides his own
compositions he is also working on different kinds of transkompositions
of music from Renaissance until music of today. His music is performed by many
international Soloists, Ensembles and Orchestras like Ensemble Modern, Ensemble
Intercontemporain, Klangforum
Wien, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Ensemble l’instant donné, Remix Ensemble,
ensemble recherche, Neue Vocalsolisten ensemble ascolta, das Neue Ensemble, the Radio Symphony Orchestras
of the WDR and SWR, the DSO Berlin, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra London and the BBC Scottish Symphony
Orchestra. He awarded prizes like the Comitée de
lecture of the Ensemble Intercontemporain in 1997 and
the Praetorius Prize 2009. His chamber opera
"les petites filles modèles" was played
many times in Paris and France and had its premiere at the Opera de Bastille in
1997. In 2008 he was participant of the “into”-project in Hong Kong.
Johannes Schöllhorn was teaching from 1995 to 2000 at the Musikhochschule Zürich-Winterthur (CH). He was conductor of
the Ensemble für Neue Musik at the Musikhochschule Freiburg (until 2004) and from 2001 to 2009
he was Professor for composition at the Hochschule für Musik
und Theater Hannover and Director of the Institut für neue Musik “incontri”. From 2009 to
2017 he was Professor for composition and director of the Institut
für Neue Musik at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne. Since
October 2017 Johannes Schöllhorn is Professor of Composition and Director of
the Institut für Neue Musik
at the Musikhochschule Freiburg.

Johannes Schöllhorn a fait plusieurs transcriptions, par exemple de "...explosante-fixe..." de Pierre Boulez.
Entre 1995 et 2000 Johannes Schöllhorn
a enseigné a la Musikhochschule
Zürich-Winterthur (CH). Il était chef d'orchestre de la Ensemble für Neue Musik de la Musikhochschule Freiburg (D). Entre 2001 et 2009 il était
professeur de composition á la Hochschule für Musik und

Köln. Maintenant il est professeur de composition et
directeur d’Institut für Neue Musik
